Timers

A Timer puts a countdown on a slide without collecting votes. Use one for a pair discussion, a short exercise or a break. You can also send an activity brief and links to audience phones.

Create a timer

  1. Select a slide without a Doppio item and open the sidebar.
  2. Under Put on the slide, choose Timer.
  3. Set the length in MIN and SEC, or choose a preset: 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, 10 min, 30 min or 60 min.
  4. Choose the start behaviour and on-slide hints.
  5. Add your end message and optional audience brief.
  6. Click Save timer and wait for saving to finish. Size and position the timer preview on your slide.

A new timer starts at 5 minutes. Lengths can run from 1 second to 60 minutes. The seconds box accepts 0 to 59; use the minutes box for longer periods.

Start behaviour and hints

SettingDefaultWhat it does
Start automatically on this slideOffStarts the countdown when you reach the slide while presenting. Leave it off to start it yourself.
Display on-slide hintsOnShows prompts such as “Tap to start” and “Tap to pause”. Turning hints off does not disable the controls.

While presenting, tap the timer to start it, tap again to pause or resume, and press and hold to reset it. Configuring a timer in the editor does not start a presentation session.

When time is up

Set a Headline and optional Instructions. The headline defaults to TIME!. For a discussion, try “Time to share” followed by “Choose one person to report your group's idea”. The end message is used on the slide and audience phones.

The headline accepts up to 80 characters and the instructions up to 119. Keep both short enough to read at a glance.

Audience settings

Expand Audience Settings to set what appears on phones:

  • Show countdown on audience phones is on by default. Turn it off when the slide clock is enough.
  • Activity title gives the exercise a name, up to 200 characters.
  • Activity instructions explain what to do, up to 2,000 characters.
  • Links provide up to three resources. Each has a label of up to 120 characters and a URL beginning with https://.

The activity brief is shown during the activity. The end headline and instructions are a separate message for when time runs out. For content without a clock, use a takeaway.

Editing and deleting

Select a saved timer's slide to edit it. After the initial Save timer, changes save automatically; Done leaves the timer editor. Wait for saving and preview updates to finish before moving to another slide.

Delete opens a confirmation before removing the timer. To create another activity with similar settings, use Copy from another slide.
